Bulgaria secured their passage to the next round of the EuroCup with a convincing 6-2 victory over Hungary. The match, which unfolded as a showcase of Bulgaria’s attacking prowess, saw Hungary putting up a valiant effort but ultimately succumbing to their opponent’s relentless pressure.
Bulgaria asserted their authority on the pitch, with I. Agushev striking early in the 11th minute to give his team the lead before D.Videv made it 2-0 in the 16th minute. Hungary found a response through D. Huszty in the 17th minute, but Bulgaria’s determination remained unshaken.
Despite M. Czerman pulling one back for Hungary in the 25th minute, levelling the game at 2-2, Bulgaria maintained their momentum and the Bulgarian onslaught continued as T. Anzhelov’s goal in the 30th minute gave Hungary a mountain to climb, putting Bulgaria back in front with 10 minutes to go.
As the game ticked towards the 40 minute mark, Hungary pulled their keeper in search of an equaliser however Bulgaria took full advantage, netting a further 3 goals in the last 3 minutes thanks to Y.Hristov, A.Stepanov and V.Emanuilov.
With the final whistle, Bulgaria celebrated a well-deserved victory, while Hungary bowed out of the tournament with heads held high. Bulgaria’s comprehensive performance sends a clear message to their rivals in the EuroCup, establishing them as formidable contenders for the title.
Oman await Bulgaria in the first of the quarter finals later on Saturday after Oman overcame Turkey in the first game of the day.
