The second edition of the Socca Grand Prix Sevens kicked off in Tbilisi, Georgia, bringing together 20 elite clubs from across the globe — representing nations such as Georgia, Greece, Portugal, USA, Oman, Morocco, Türkiye, Nigeria, Croatia, Spain, and Belgium. This prestigious 7-a-side tournament has already delivered an opening day filled with high-scoring thrillers, shocking upsets, and performances that set the tone for an exciting competition.
One of the standout matches saw Naija Thunder from Nigeria storm past Socca USA with a dominant 5–1 victory, making a powerful statement and immediately positioning themselves as early contenders for the knockout stage. Another strong performance came from Caucasus Auto Import, who comfortably dispatched Mlady Perspektivni with a convincing 4–0 win, delighting the home crowd in Tbilisi.
The opening day also delivered drama and balance, as shown in the 4–4 spectacle between Aptos and FC Real Panthers. Both sides traded goals in a thrilling encounter that kept fans on the edge of their seats and proved why the Socca Grand Prix Sevens is one of the most entertaining short-format tournaments worldwide.
Defending their ground, Tbilisi City Hall managed to edge past Socca USA in a tight 1–0 clash, showing that Georgian clubs are ready to push for deep runs in this competition. Elsewhere, Denizli Genclik from Türkiye impressed with a commanding 4–1 win over Gruni, while Betlive secured a narrow but important 1–0 triumph against FC Arizona.
With the group stage heating up, the opening day’s results have already given certain teams — such as Naija Thunder, Caucasus Auto Import, FC Bridge, and Denizli Genclik — a clear advantage in the race for qualification. But as history has shown in 7-a-side socca, momentum can shift quickly, and every match remains crucial.
The Socca Grand Prix Sevens also serves as the perfect warm-up for the upcoming TUI Socca Champions League, set to take place in about a month in Rethymno, Crete. Clubs and fans alike are treating Tbilisi as both a showcase of talent and a proving ground ahead of the season’s biggest stage.
