Socca’s America Fiesta kicks off with a bang!!!

In the beautiful setting of Cancun, with it’s white beaches and clear blue sea, last night saw the start of Socca’s America Fiesta! 

16 teams from around the world have descended on the Mexican tourism capital to fight it out in an invitational tournament for the title of Copa America Champions. 

 

The opening day saw all teams playing their first game in the competition, with some noteable results. Oman, newly announced host of the 2024 Socca World Cup kicked off the tournament in emphatic style with a convincing 4-1 destruction of Peru. European giants England and Hungary both enjoyed opening day victories as well, as England beat Panama 2-1 while Hungary ran out 3-1 winners over first time Socca entrants Guatemala. 

The opening night saw a fantastic opening ceremony, with dignitaries from Socca including CEO Thanos Papadopoulos and Socca Middle East President Waleed Al Obaidani present, that featured representations of the Mayan culture, a Mariachi band and fireworks to kick off the party in style. 

The Mexican team kept up the party atmosphere thanks to a 2-1 victory in the main game of the evening against South American counterparts Uruguay.
