Referees Take Centre Stage At World Cup

The best referees in five, six, and seven-a-side football gathered in Germany for the recent World Cup in Essen and have been praised for their high standards.

Ex-Premiership referee Peter Walton, who attended the World Cup, said, “The ISF and the socca community have gathered together the best officials from around the world in small-sided football, and I cannot speak highly enough of how they performed.

“I watched most of the games, and their control of the matches meant that the tournament ran smoothly without any problems. I don’t think there was one single serious complaint about the match officials throughout the entire 100 matches in the tournament, which is a testament to their professionalism and skill. I heartily applaud them for that.”

ISF CEO Thanos Papadopoulos agreed, saying, “There is no doubt that this set of referees we had this year was the most professional team we have ever assembled, and with their new range of kit colours in yellows, pinks, and oranges, they looked absolutely stunning. We are extremely lucky to have such a dedicated group of professionals working for ISF and delivering such magnificent performances for us.”
