The International Socca Federation is delighted to announce Gary Newbon as our new presenter.
Gary is one of the most experienced and decorated television and radio sports presenters in the UK – he is currently working for Sky Sports and radio station TalkSPORT.
He has covered seven World Cups and three Olympic Games as well as a whole host of sports including football, boxing and greyhound racing. He made his name through memorable interviews with the likes of Brian Clough, Sir Alex Ferguson and Chris Eubank. His career to date has spanned over 50 years and has taken in more than 10,000 shows.
He was the face of ITV Sport for almost four decades, before moving latterly in his career to Talksport and Sky Sports. He remains a fixture on screens and the airwaves to this day, due to his relaxed yet authoritative and knowledgeable style.
One of the most revered broadcasters in the country, Gary – an avid fan of Leicester City – has won three Royal Television awards for his varied and superb work across a host of sports. In 2009, he had the honour of being bestowed a spot on the Birmingham Walk Of Stars, alongside some of the other luminaries who call the second city and its suburbs home, including musician Ozzy Osborne, presenter Chris Tarrant and comedians Japser Carrott and Lenny Henry. Only given to 39 people, Gary is proudly number 14.
An ISF spokesman said: “We are thrilled to welcome Gary on board. He brings with him a contact book that is second to none and decade after decade of experience in top level sport. He is a massive addition to our ranks and we look forward to tapping into his incredible sporting and broadcasting knowledge – as well as hearing some wonderful stories.”
