There are less than three weeks now until the 2019 Socca World Cup kicks off.
The official launch took place this weekend with a wonderful welcoming speech from Stavros Arnaoutakis Governor of the Region of Crete. You can read his warm words below.
“Rethymno and the entire island of Crete made preparations to welcome an important sports event; The SOCCA WORLD CUP 2019, the 6 a side soccer World Championship certainly shines the spotlight on our island and draws the attention of sportsmen and sports lovers all over the world, with the participation of delegations from 40 countries of the globe. Crete is no stranger to world sport and has acquired the know-how of hosting important sports events, as well as showcasing its cultural and historical identity at the same time.
The event, which takes place in the old town of Rethymno, by the shoreline of the North Cretan Sea in October, will undoubtedly send strong and timeless messages worldwide, as regards the historical significance and values of Crete that make up its identity: hospitality, respect for the tradition, endless struggle and hard work and hope for a better future.
“As representatives of the Region of Crete, we are happy to welcome all the participating athletes, coaches and team escorts to our island. Furthermore, we wish all spectators a pleasant stay.
“We also would like to express our gratitude to the International SOCCA Federation for their excellent cooperation with us, as well as to all participants and supporters of the event.
“Rethymno is ready to write its own glorious page in the world sports history.”
